Organic Cacao seedlings. Theobroma cacao grown in Florida without pesticides. Needs part shade and moist soil. They can be an exotic indoor potted houseplant or outdoors planted in the ground. They will need warmth and humidity. Can produce cacao pods like the one in the photo. From seedling to pods takes about three years. Will benefit from cross pollination to produce the best cacao pods. Two plants are recommended for cross pollination.
This USDA Puerto Rican TARS seedling is highly productive and is reported to be more disease resistant than most other cacao. This is a rare and special variety. This cacao is known for it's fast growth yet it is smaller than other in height. It averages 10 -15 feet with regular pruning after harvesting the pods. The pulp has a unique citrus flavor and makes a high quality chocolate.
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Plants are in 3.5" x 8" deep containers. The average planted height from soil level is 6-9 inches. We will ship the plants like the ones in the photograph. All orders include USPS Priority Shipping.
Seedling trees begin flowering in about two or three years and produce pods after 3 - 4 years. For better yields via cross pollination order two plants.
NOTICE: Please don't order if you are experiencing temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Not responsible for cold weather damage.
Watch this video on growing cacao in Florida:
Cacao plants can be grown in South Florida and in other areas of the USA with similar climates. Since not all cacao are self compatible we offer two plants with this order. Cross pollination offers better yields and helps to insure flower set. This is why we offer two plants with this order. Our cacao plants are fast growing, producing large pods of quality cacao beans.
IMPORTANT READ THIS:
Seedling plants need protection from cold weather, wind, sun, dry conditions.
On arrival of your seedling place them in a location with temperatures about (70-80 F) in shade but NOT direct sun for two weeks so they can adjust from shipping. NO direct sunlight at all!
NO partial shade - FULL SHADE ONLY!
Once again: Sun will burn the seedlings! Allow the plants a week or two to adjust before transplanting or fertilizing. If you plan to plant them in the garden, gradually increase their exposure to sunlight and outdoor conditions! Temperatures falling below 50 F can result in plant damage or death.
Pepe's Plants will not be responsible for plants that die as a result of improper care and handling once it is in the buyers hands. Contact me immediately (within at least 48 hours) if something is wrong with the plant.
